Practical driver
training
These sessions are available for people who hold a learners
licence, restricted licence or a full licence, which must be
carried during lessons. If you are already driving, have a
fair knowledge of the basics and just require tidying up and
polishing off - there are lessons for you too. Also available
are refresher lessons catering for the Older Driver.
"Nervous pupils are our specialty."
Lessons are one hour long, include free pickup and drop
off, and there is no price difference for weekend lessons. It
is recommended that you aim for two or more lessons per week.
The closer you keep your lessons the quicker your confidence
builds, which means fewer lessons are required. Lessons cost
$60 per hour (this can be reduced to $57 per hour if you
prepay for five lessons or more).
Each lesson covers new topics in different locations so you
are exposed to as many experiences and varied conditions as
possible. The lessons are structured in a logical progression,
so that each lesson builds on the skills taught and learned in
the previous lessons. Triple "A" specialises in perceptive
skills and eye training techniques, which will prepare you for
a lifetime of safe driving. Our unique booklet "Safe Driving
Habits" will be issued on the first lesson. There is an
additional cost of $10.00 for this booklet. This is a teaching
aid used between lessons, where the instructor will set
reading segments. This eliminates unnecessary time spent
sitting on the side of the road talking, allowing more
efficient use of teaching time. Lesson notes and handouts that
support the topics covered in each lesson are included. NZQA
driving unit standards are available on request these can be
used to credit towards NCEA elective credits.
Topics that will be covered include
- basic cockpit drills
- stopping
- starting and gear changing
- dealing and coping with intersections
- hill starts
- parallel parking
- 3 point turns
- lane driving with traffic
- on and off ramps with higher speeds and motorway driving
- emergency braking
- preparation for the driving test.
The goal of Triple "A" is to teach you to be a safe and
confident driver - not merely a licensed driver.
Triple "A" will cater for your needs whatever stage you're at.

The Full Licence Test
Triple "A" offer a practical session where the instructor
will show you through what is to be expected for the Full
Licence Test. We find that a one-hour training session is
usually sufficient.
The instructor will coach you through commentary driving to
a proficient standard, and if required tidy up your driving
and advise you of any poor habits you may have developed.
There are three parts to the full licence test. All three
areas of the test will be covered and the instructor will
discuss the sorts of questions the testing officer may ask.
There is no set route for this test. The cost is $60 per hour long session.
Our goal is to ensure that you become a safe driver, not
just a licensed driver.
Please have a look at the
LTNZ factsheet on the full licence test.
This will give you in-depth information on the full licence
test.
